Fear Free Care at Our Veterinary Hospital

At our clinics, your pet’s emotional wellbeing is just as important to us as their physical health. That’s why our entire team is Fear Free Accredited—meaning we are specially trained to recognise and reduce signs of fear, anxiety, and stress at every visit. Our goal is to create an experience where pets (and their people!) feel safe, supported, and understood from the moment they walk through our doors.

A Calmer, More Comfortable Experience

We design every aspect of your visit with your pet’s comfort in mind:

✨ Separate Dog and Cat Spaces

We offer separate waiting areas and consult rooms to help reduce noise, scent, and visual triggers—particularly important for our feline friends.

✨ Calming Pheromones

Our hospital uses species-specific pheromone diffusers throughout our consult rooms and wards to promote a sense of calm and familiarity.

✨ Soothing Cat & Dog Music

Research shows that music tailored to each species can lower stress levels. We play cat-specific calming tracks in our feline areas and dog relaxation music in our canine spaces to help pets settle more comfortably.

✨ Thundershirts for Extra Support

For pets who benefit from gentle, constant pressure, we use Thundershirts during examinations and procedures where appropriate. These can help anxious dogs and cats feel more grounded and secure.

✨ Gentle, Low-Stress Handling

We use cooperative care techniques, avoiding forced restraint whenever possible. Treats, toys, soft voices, and patience help us work at your pet’s pace.

✨ Fear Free Medications When Needed

If your pet is especially anxious, our vets may recommend safe, Fear Free–approved pre-visit medications to ensure their appointment is calmer and more manageable.

✨ Quiet, Thoughtful Waiting Areas

Whenever possible, we bring patients straight into a consult room to avoid waiting-room stress and reduce noise, movement, and distraction.

✨ Highly Trained Fear Free Staff

Every member of our team—vets, nurses, and reception staff—is trained in Fear Free methods, ensuring your pet’s emotional wellbeing is supported from check-in to home time.

Stress-Free Visits Start at Home

If your pet is nervous about vet visits, we’ll help you prepare in advance. Suggestions may include:

  • Using pheromones or calming supplements at home
  • Playing the same calming pet music you’ll hear in our clinic
  • Adapting travel crate or car desensitisation
  • Using a Thundershirt at home before travel
  • Pre-visit medications when recommended

Working together, we can transform stressful visits into positive experiences.

Why Fear Free Matters

Reducing stress helps us perform more accurate examinations, improves safety for both pets and staff, and builds trust that lasts throughout your pet’s life. A pet who feels safe is a pet we can help more effectively and compassionately.

Your Pet’s Emotional Health Comes First

We’re proud to be a Fear Free Accredited practice. Whether your pet is visiting us for a routine check-up or something more complex, you can trust that every part of their experience has been thoughtfully designed to reduce stress and increase comfort.

Questions? Just ask! We want you to be happy, too!
